Black History Fact No.1

(A vintage photograph of the congregation outside Greater Warner Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion church.)
Greater Warner Tabernacle AME Zion Church is Knoxville Tennessee's oldest black church. It was established in 1845 and served as a station on the Underground Railroad. The church has been a hub for educational and civic activities for hundreds of families since its inception. In addition to being the oldest black church in Knoxville, it also opened the first school for blacks in the Eastport community in its basement.
