I truly believe that our body, mind, and soul provide
insight on the true state of our personal health status. Fatigues,
forgetfulness, unwarranted expressions of distress or anger are all signs of an
imbalance. What should you do? Take exactly 60 seconds and be honest about what
is disturbing you. When you find the answer then positively act on a solution.
Not sure where to start? Schedule an appointment with your doctor and discuss
your concerns then follow the instructions/prescriptions given. By all means do
NOT underestimate the
benefits of spiritual and mental health advice/treatment. Have A Healthy Day
(on purpose)!

That Moment When...
3:27am.... That moment when you (the hospital MD), the
ERMD, and the Radiology MD all realize that the patient has a rare disorder.
Yeah, that moment when you realize that you are able to run, give orders, do an
exam, get ready for life flight, and notify the surgical team all at the same
time. That moment when you are reminded of why you chose this career. Yep, this
was that moment... Have A Healthy Day!

Health Tip: Mental Illness
You generally cannot "make" someone that is
suspected to have a mental illness seek care. There are of course exceptions
such as homicidal or suicidal ideations. Encourage them to speak with their
primary care physician and/or notify their PCP (Primary Care Physician) of your concerns. If someone
threatens to harm themselves or harm someone else then BELIEVE them! Contact
the local authorities (MD/Police/Paramedics/911/Mobile Crisis) immediately!
Have A Mentally Healthy Day!

HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK ALONE
Let's say it's 6.15pm and you're going home (alone of course) ...after an unusually hard day on the job. You're really tired, upset and frustrated. Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to drag out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are only about five miles (8kms) from the hospital nearest your home. Unfortunately you don't know if you'll be able to make it that far. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy that taught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself..!!
NOW HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE..
Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.
However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously. A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.
A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again. Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating. The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can get to a hospital.
Share this information with as many people as you can. You may just save a person's life!!!

Health Tip: Apparent Life Threatening Event ("ALTE")
An "Apparent Life Threatening Event"or ALTE is a scary diagnosis. It is often associated with unknown respiratory, cardiac, or seizure disorders in children. Caregivers will find patients lethargic, unresponsive, not breathing, or with a change in color. See your doctor immediately or go to the nearest emergency room if you find yourself in this situation!!!! Have A Healthy Day!!!!

Health Tip: Time To Get Shots!
Time to get your FLU shot and possibly your pneumonia vaccine. If you are in the recommended population of people needing a pneumonia vaccine (chronic illness or elderly) then you will only need the vaccine every 5 years. Please make sure your vaccines are up to date. You may also want to get a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) and inquire about a TB skin test. Have A Healthy Day!

Health Tip: Urgent vs. Emergency
Urgent and Emergency have very specific meanings for the medical community. Urgent means "Come or Call NOW but still breathing and no loss of limb/life". Emergency means there is a threat to life and/or limb. If you call or text us using these terms we are going to ask "What's the Urgency/Emergency" If you fail to immediately answer or beat around the bush then we will consider your circumstance less than urgent or emergent. Please don't abuse the terms. Have A Healthy Day!!!!

Health Tip: Abuse
Abuse (by word, deed, or neglect) is the purposeful infliction of malice/harm on a being. Unfortunately, many reality shows are promoting this behavior. Thus, aggression (bullying) has increased in popularity among the young and the old. The way to stop this epidemic is to purposely avoid supporting such acts and to positively intervene when witnessing abuse. Have A Healthy Day!!!

Health Tip: Liver Disease
End Stage Liver Disease translation you are going to die if you don't get a Liver transplant! You will NOT qualify for a liver transplant if you continue to drink and/or do drugs. You must be absolutely alcohol and drug free for one year BEFORE you can be considered a serious transplant candidate. Being diagnosed with a second terminal illness will also have you removed from the list. Be good to your liver! Have A Healthy Day!

Heath Tip: P.T.S.D.
So this week's medical theme is PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Keyword being "TRAUMATIC". A life altering incident that cause one to re-live the horrors of the event. Some things are so traumatic that it makes it beyond difficult to speak. It can also be difficult for one to listen to and make an appropriate response. Have A Healthy Day!

Health Tip: Respiratory Failure
I am amazed how my days at work seem to take on themes. This past week’s theme was Respiratory Failure (the inability to breath without the existence of oxygen or life support, i.e. lungs not working). The Health Tip: Don't expose yourself unnecessarily to that which literally compromises "the breath of life". Tobacco exposure, illicit inhalants, and even occupational hazards tend to be the culprits. Have A Healthy Day!!!
